The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and the Bellvitge Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBELL) have signed a collaboration agreement for the development of joint research projects. The agreement is part of the BIOPOL project.
The primary objective of the strategic alliance between IBEC and IDIBELL is to carry out joint projects in the following areas: transplantation, bioengineering, implants, tissue engineering, and biocompatibility; new medical imaging technologies; new technologies for molecular and genetic diagnosis; biomedical and bioelectronic engineering; and neurosciences.
The collaboration agreement between the 2 institutes will involve an exchange of staff members, the organization of joint activities, the shared use of facilities and equipment, and participation in joint projects.
IBEC is currently located in the Barcelona Science Park (Parc Cientific de Barcelona) and scheduled to move to BIOPOL, the biotechnology park of Hospitalet de Llobregat, the health science campus of Bellvitge
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), a research institute that focuses on nanomedicine and bioengineering, was created in 2005 by the Department of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise and the Department of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia, the University of Barcelona (UB), and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC).
The Bellvitge Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBELL) is a research institute created in 2004 with the participation of Bellvitge University Hospital, the Catalan Institute of Oncology, the University of Barcelona, and the Institute for Imaging Diagnosis. IDIBELL is a part of BIOPOL, the health science park of Hospitalet.
