Eduard Torrents, leader of the group “Bacterial infections: antimicrobial therapies” at IBEC, is interviewed in the ALMA magazine to explain how his group is fighting against the bacteria that causes cystic fibrosis.
Eduard Torrents focuses his research on the creation of nanoparticles that could kill the bacterial infections that causes cystic fibrosis.
We are designing alternative therapies to the current ones, capable of attacking that biofilm. We use nanoparticles whose surface we has been modified to break it down so that the antibiotic can penetrate and kill the bacteria that grow inside the mucus, which would radically cure infections.
