The “Crazy about Bioengineering” is back, with a new program!

This is the fourth year in a row that IBEC gets involved in this initiative, promoted since 2013 by Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation. Thanks to this program, students will have the opportunity to see how researchers work in a cutting-edge research centre and will learn about different bioengineering disciplines that aim to help solving health challenges.

Students at the lab

As in previous editions, this year’scrazieswent through a long recruitment process to enter the program. Thanks to this, they will now be able to enjoy several theoretical and practical sessions on bioengineering that will take place on Saturdays combining virtual and face-to-face sessions at IBEC facilities.

But this year we have great news: we launch a new program! Specifically, this year’s IBEC course includes sessions on the main bioengineering research areas applied to health: diseases related to the aging of the population, the study of cancer and the study of rare diseases. To all this, we must add the traditional sessions on good laboratory practices, learn about ethical issues related to research field and on how to communicate science.

We have renewed and aligned the program of the”Crazy about Bioengineering”with the main research areas of IBEC and also trying to adapt the sessions to this “new normality” in which we have been immersed.

Pilar Jiménez, OutreachCoordinator at IBEC and programcoordinator.

This year’s edition of the ‘Crazy about Bioengineering’ program will have 15 sessions in which 24 students -16 girls and 8 boys- and 22 researchers and 8 support people from the Institute will participate. The kick-off of the “Crazy about Science” program took place last Friday, January 15, and the “Crazy about Bioengineering” program begins on January 23.
