During the EMBL-IBEC Winter Conference held on February 10-12 in La Pedrera, Xavier Trepat, principal investigator at IBEC, was interviewed for the ARA newspaper.
The article focuses on how these mini-organs are playing a strong roll in the research field as substitutes for laboratory mice. During the interview, Xavier Trepat emphasizes that the creation of these organoids “Is an important step for precision medicine.” He also highlights that the main application of these mini-organs is only feasable at a research laboratory scale and not as a possible solution for organ transplantation, for that, there is still much work to be done. “The mini-organs are becoming a basic tool to test new drugs”
